Importance of Safety & Injury Prevention
Injuries are the fifth leading cause of death for all ages in Singapore.
When age-specific mortality rates for injuries are examined, injuries rank
as the leading cause of death in pre-school, school and young adult age
groups. For one death there will be many more children with injuries who are
hospitalised, visit Accident & Emergency Departments in hospitals, at doctor's
outpatient clinics and many more who just had self or home treatment.
Working Parents

Over 50% of the families here in Singapore are working parents. They have to
leave their children or their elderly parents under the care of foreign domestic
workers or other Day Care arrangements. It is important for caregivers to be
knowledgeable and have skills to prevent home injuries.
Foreign Domestic Worker Safety Awareness Course
There are over 140,000 foreign domestic workers working in Singapore. They are
from various countries with different backgrounds, environment and culture.
From 1 April 2004 onwards, the new foreign domestic workers who apply for work
permit must attend a compulsory Safety Awareness Course for New Foreign Domestic
Workers. The curriculum includes Personal Safety in High Rise Living with emphasis
