Road Safety

Road Accidents are a daily occurence on our roads, whether it is a minor or a major road accident. Most road accidents are caused by a moment of carelessness and irresponsible behavior of the driver.

Majority of road accidents are the results of drink driving, speeding, using of handphone or smoking while driving. According to the Singapore Police Force, there has been a slight increase in the total number of fatal and injury accidents in general, though this figure is greatly attributed by the number of minor accidents.

To prevent road accidents, National Safety Council of Singapore organises safe driving classes such as the Defensive Driving Course, held road safety talks and work closely with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Traffic Police to bring safe driving messages across to all drivers- To make the road safe for motorists and pedestrians.

The Traffic Accident Fund is a financial assistance scheme, fund-raised by the National Safety Council and the Traffic Police, to support survivors of road traffic accidents who suffer from permanent or temporary disability due to these accidents.

The Centre for Enabled Living has been appointed by the National Safety Council and the Traffic Police to administer the Traffic Accident Fund (TAF).
